Cupid and Centaur by Joel Peter Witkin, 1992
His work is amazing... decidedly macabre, dark, and haunting but maintains a sense of poetic beauty and romance. His photographs often include skeletons, corpses, dismembered bodies, dwarfs, transsexuals, hermaphrodites, and deformed humans. Witkin's technique draws on early daguerreotype processes, scratching the negatives, and bleaching/toning the prints.
Hello William:
ReplyDeleteWhilst we really do admire the skill and artistry shown here, the subject matter is, possibly, for us a little too grim, a bit too much on the dark side, too redolent of the Gothic.
Were you ever at The Menagerie in Northamptonshire during the time before the death of Gervase Jackson Stops? He had a somewhat macabre grotto in the basement. Interesting but....!
