I recently saw some of Romaine Brooks' paintings in the Renwick Gallery in D.C. and fell in love... here are some favorites...
Self Portrait, 1923
Jean Cocteau, 1912
Peter, a Young English Girl, 1924
Ida Rubinstein, 1918
Romaine Brooks with some of her paintings, circa 1960.
Such an interesting figure -just one of many that carried on in that era. There is a biography coming about her in 2011-I think. Romaine Brooks and her Circle.ReplyDelete
Thank you for letting me know- I'll definitely have to check that out. Her paintings are fascinating.ReplyDelete
I had not heard of this artist, but I am grateful for the introduction. Thanks for stopping by.ReplyDelete
Aren't they just wonderful?! And all the subjects so very, very stylish as, we think, was she. How we should love this exhibition. Lucky you!
I always go crazy for art from the Interwar years, but she especially makes me wild! I love all the grays she would use. I think her portrait of Gluck, "Peter a Young English Girl" is my favorite.ReplyDelete
